Jason Ritter truly is one of the most underrated actors today, really. There I said it - and I meant it. Not long from now you will be able to see him front and center for the new ABC show, "Kevin (Probably) Saves the World." In it he is "Kevin Finn", fresh off of a mental breakdown and subsequent suicide attempt, and finds himself at his recently widowed sister Amy's (JoAnna Garcia Swisher) home in Texas.

The brother/sister pair barely have a change to bond before she is wisked away (via helicopter nonetheless) by the government who need her expertise (she's a scientist). Almost immediately after that an a meteor hits nearby - woah! Of course Kevin and mouthy niece Reese (Chloe East) go and investigate. Of course Kevin touches it and boom now he can hear and see a person that no one else can.
The 'person' alleges to be a guardian angel called Yvette (Kimberly Hebert Gregory) and whose sole mission is to help restore righteousness to the Earth. Yes, you guessed it, Kevin is the only one who can help and yes, the future of humanity depends on him.
The show has story deviations that leave even this TV veteran with whiplash. The pilot alone had numerous paths that could be taken and rather than commit to any one of them, it would seem writers would settle on yet another direction. All the while at the center of the show is Ritter who at his best conveys sincerity and sensitivity better than most. KPSTW may end up being a show that, like so many others, gets cancelled before it can find its following. A talent such as his may, at best, be able to extend the life of the show.
There are a few truly intriguing storylines in "Kevin (Probably) Saves the World. The combination of Kevin and angel Yvette is endearing. One would be hard pressed to find a sassier guardian angel. And while the plot line of only one person being able to see/hear another person is tired, it does in this instance make for the episodes more playful moments.

There is also potential to appeal to the spiritual crowd with religious and theological undertones. Or, if that doesn't float your boat then perhaps the scientific or extraterrestrial associations will appeal to you. Maybe however, the love spark between the two old high school flames will be what brings you back.

More likely however, you will tune in to see Ritter expand his talents and his resume with "Kevin (Probably) Saves the World." They are after all firing on all cylinders and are at their best. But, will they be enough to save the show? Well, that's up to you.
